Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, explained that this decrease was influenced by lower rice production in subround 1 (January-April 2024) due to the prolonged El Niño.

In 2024, East Java was the highest national rice-producing province, with 5.35 million tons. This was followed by Central Java with 5.11 million tons, and West Java with 4.98 million tons.

"In line with the spatial pattern of rice production, approximately 54.18% of the total national rice production in 2024 originated from Java Island," said Amalia.

Meanwhile, the provinces with the lowest rice production were Papua Pegunungan with only 24 tons, followed by Riau Islands with 175 tons, and West Papua Daya with 594 tons.
