Indonesia's chili production reached 1.39 million tons in 2021. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded an 8.09% decrease from 2020's 1.5 million tons.
The 2021 decrease in chili production was the first in the last five years. In 2017, chili production was recorded at 1.15 million tons, and it continuously increased until 2020.
In 2021, the highest chili production occurred in July, reaching 134,400 tons. The lowest production was in February, at 94,540 tons.
East Java was the province with the highest chili production in Indonesia, reaching 578,880 tons in 2021. This contributed 41.75% to national chili production.
Meanwhile, Central Java was in second place, contributing 12.93% with a production of 179,290 tons. West Java contributed 9.91%, with production reaching 137,460 tons.
