Indonesia's Agricultural Exports Increase by 4.1% from January to November 2021

Data from the Indonesian Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) shows that Indonesia's non-oil and gas agricultural exports reached US$3.83 billion in the January-November 2021 period. This figure represents a 4.1% increase compared to the same period the previous year, which recorded US$3.68 billion.

Agricultural exports in the January-November 2021 period contributed 1.97% to Indonesia's total non-oil and gas exports. During this period, Indonesia's total non-oil and gas exports reached US$197.98 billion.

Some of Indonesia's export commodities originating from the agricultural sector include coffee, tea, and spices. These commodities contributed the highest export value throughout January-November 2021, reaching US$1.33 billion or 0.7% of total non-oil and gas exports.

Looking at the trend of Indonesian agricultural exports since 2016, the value has been fluctuating. The highest export value occurred in 2020, reaching US$4.1 billion with growth reaching 14.02%. As we know, 2020 marked the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. However, this condition did not negatively impact agricultural exports; in fact, their value increased.

Kemendag notes that this momentum of increased exports can serve as a foundation to encourage the agricultural sector to achieve food self-sufficiency while also becoming a global supplier of food products. This sector also plays an important role in national economic growth. Going forward, the agricultural sector is expected to become a mainstay of the economy, not just temporarily during the pandemic.
