Three Javanese Provinces Became National Rice Barns in 2020

East Java, Central Java, and West Java were the largest rice-producing provinces in 2020. As shown in the graph, these three provinces have darker colors on the map compared to other provinces. The darker the color, the higher the rice production.

Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), these three provinces produced 28.45 million tons of dry milled rice (GKG). This amount is equivalent to 52.6% of the total national GKG production, which reached 54.65 million tons.

If converted into rice, these three provinces produced 16.32 million tons of rice. This amount is more than half of the total rice production in Indonesia, which reached 31.33 million tons.

In detail, East Java produced 9.94 million tons of GKG or the equivalent of 5.71 million tons of rice last year. Central Java produced 9.49 million tons of GKG or the equivalent of 5.43 million tons of rice. Then, GKG production in West Java reached 9.02 million tons or the equivalent of 5.18 million tons of rice.

Furthermore, BPS recorded that 17 provinces experienced an increase in rice production last year. The remaining provinces experienced a decrease in rice production.

The largest increase in rice production came from Jakarta, namely from 35.26 tons to 4,544 tons of GKG. Meanwhile, the deepest decrease in rice production was in Papua, namely from 29.46 tons to 166,002 tons of GKG.
