Indonesia is the world's largest clove producer. In 2020, clove production in Indonesia reached 133,604 tons, according to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Clove is one of Indonesia's leading commodities in the global market. It not only meets domestic needs but also supplies the export market.

Data from the Ministry of Agriculture shows that Indonesia's clove exports totaled around 47,700 tons in 2020. This figure surged by 84% compared to 2019, which amounted to 25,900 tons.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, cloves are a native spice of Maluku that was highly sought after by colonial powers. During the colonial era, cloves were one of the most popular spices and commanded high prices. Clove-producing regions in Indonesia include East Java, Maluku, Sulawesi Island, East Kalimantan, and East Nusa Tenggara.

Besides Indonesia, the second largest clove producer globally is Madagascar, with a production of 23,931 tons in 2020. Tanzania and Comoros follow, producing 8,602 tons and 6,799 tons respectively.
