What is the area of rubber plantations in Indonesia?

Based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture, the national rubber plantation area reaches 3.67 million hectares. This area has increased by 72% compared to the 1970 figure of 1.81 million hectares. By the end of 2019, the area of palm oil plantations is estimated to reach 3.68 million hectares.

According to ownership status, the largest area of palm oil plantations belongs to independent farmers (PR), reaching 3.11 million hectares or approximately 84.8% of the total palm oil plantation area in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the area of palm oil plantations owned by large private companies (PBS) is 324,000 hectares, or about 8.82% of the total, and the area of rubber plantations owned by state-owned plantations (PBN) reaches 234,000 hectares, or 6.37% of the total.

For information, rubber is one of Indonesia's main non-oil and gas export commodities. According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, crumb rubber exports in 2018 reached 2.74 million tons, valued at US$ 3.83 billion, equivalent to Rp 53.7 trillion. This value is approximately 2.36% of Indonesia's total non-oil and gas exports, which reached US$ 162.81 billion.
