Ministry of Agriculture: Corn Stock Reaches 2.6 Million Tons as of September 6, 2021

The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) recorded a national corn stock of 2.6 million tons in the second week of September 2021. The highest concentration of corn stock came from collectors, amounting to 744,250 tons.

The next highest corn stock was held by the Indonesian Feedlot Association (Gabungan Perusahaan Makanan Ternak/GPMT) at 722,252 tons. Stocks held by agents and retailers amounted to 423,502 tons and 288,305 tons, respectively.

Kementan also recorded that other business types, such as independent feed producers, had a corn stock of 276,300 tons. Wholesalers held 95,506 tons of corn stock.

Government and non-profit organizations were recorded as having 30,136 tons of corn stock. Meanwhile, corn stocks held by the processing industry and households were 20,962 tons and 14,214 tons, respectively.

Previously, there was controversy regarding corn stock data for animal feed. Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi attributed the increase in corn prices to a shortage of stock.

Lutfi questioned Kementan's corn stock figures due to discrepancies with field data. Conversely, Kementan claimed that local corn stocks were abundant.
