Chili peppers led the increase in basic commodity prices in 2018. The price of bird's eye chilies in December of last year increased by 10.8% to Rp 40,506/kg compared to Rp 36,559/kg in December of the previous year. This was followed by the price of broiler chicken, which increased by 10.43% to Rp 44,674/kg from the previous year.

Meanwhile, the basic commodity that experienced the largest price decrease was red chili peppers, by 7.72% to Rp 37,096/kg in December 2018 compared to Rp 40,199/kg in December 2017. This was followed by granulated sugar, which decreased by 4.61% to Rp 12,142/kg from the previous price.
For information, the inflation rate throughout last year was 3.13%, lower than the previous year, while food inflation was 3.41%. Core inflation reached 3.03%, government-regulated prices 3.36%, and volatile prices 3.39%.
