West Java Became the National Tea Plantation in 2020

West Java is known as the province with the largest tea production in Indonesia. The large amount of tea produced in West Java is supported by its extensive tea plantation area.

According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the area of tea plantations in West Java reached 86,832 hectares (ha) in 2020, the largest in Indonesia. The proportion of tea plantation area in the province reached 77.31% of the total tea plantation area in Indonesia.

Central Java is in second place with a tea plantation area of 9,051 ha. Indonesia's tea plantations are spread across Java and Sumatra. Two provinces on Sumatra Island, North Sumatra and West Sumatra, occupy the third and fourth positions with tea plantation areas of 6,059 ha and 3,714 ha respectively.

East Java is in fifth place with a tea plantation area of 2,187 ha. Jambi is in sixth place with a tea plantation area of 1,798 ha.

Furthermore, the tea plantation area in South Sumatra is in seventh place with an area of 1,523 ha, followed by Bengkulu with 915 ha, Yogyakarta with 137 ha, and Banten with 95 ha.

The total area of tea plantations in Indonesia was 112,308 ha in 2020. This tea plantation area consists of 51,235 ha of people's plantations, 38,332 ha of large state-owned plantations, and 22,740 ha of large private plantations.
