10 Provinces with the Highest Medium-Grade Rice Prices in Early December 2022

Based on a report from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center, the average price of medium-grade I rice in traditional markets reached Rp12,350 per kilogram on December 1, 2022.

At the beginning of this month, the highest price for medium-grade I rice was recorded in West Sumatra, at Rp14,900 per kilogram. This was followed by DKI Jakarta at Rp14,400 per kilogram, and Riau and Central Kalimantan at Rp14,350 per kilogram each.

Prices in South Kalimantan and North Kalimantan reached Rp13,950 and Rp13,850 per kilogram, respectively. Meanwhile, the lowest national rice price on December 1, 2022, was in West Nusa Tenggara, at Rp9,600 per kilogram.

This rice price increase contributed to inflation. BPS recorded monthly inflation in November 2022 at 0.09% (month-on-month/mom) and annual inflation at 5.42% (year-on-year/yoy).

BPS Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics, Setianto, stated that rice prices in Indonesia have been rising since July 2022.

"The increase in rice prices over the past four months has been influenced by seasonal effects, namely the decrease in rice production towards the end of the year and the adjustment of fuel prices (BBM)," said Setianto, as reported by *Kontan.co.id*, Thursday (1/12/2022).
