Indonesia's Top 10 Provinces with the Largest Sheep Populations: West Java Takes the Lead

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the sheep population in Indonesia reached 15.61 million in 2022. This figure decreased by approximately 0.13% year-on-year (yoy) compared to the previous year's 15.63 million in 2021.

West Java had the largest national sheep population, reaching 9.98 million in 2022. Central Java was second with 2.32 million sheep, followed by East Java with 1.45 million.

North Sumatra recorded a sheep population of 780,600. Banten and Yogyakarta had sheep populations of 408,600 and 145,700, respectively.

Meanwhile, North Kalimantan had the smallest sheep population in Indonesia, with only 29 in 2022, followed by Bangka Belitung Islands with 66.
