Turmeric, the Highest-Producing Biopharmaceutical Plant in Maluku in 2020

Tumeric is the most produced biopharmaceutical or medicinal plant in Maluku Province. According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), tumeric production in Maluku reached 329.6 tons in 2020, a 96.52% increase from the previous year's 167.72 tons.

The next largest biopharmaceutical crop in Maluku is ginger, at 241 tons, a 168.61% increase from the previous year. Following this, galangal production in Maluku amounted to 206.2 tons, a 28.47% increase from the previous year.

Based on regional distribution, the largest tumeric production is in Central Maluku Regency, at 208.3 tons. Central Maluku Regency is also the largest producer of galangal and ginger in Maluku, with 88.8 tons and 88.6 tons respectively.

The harvested area of tumeric in Maluku was 12.95 hectares in 2020, second only to ginger at 22.54 hectares. The harvested area of galangal was next, at 7.08 hectares.
