Between Arabica and Robusta Coffee, Which is More Widely Produced in the World?

The International Coffee Organization (ICO) compiles the annual production of the two most popular coffee bean varieties globally: Arabica and Robusta.

According to its report, Arabica coffee production surpassed Robusta in 2020, reaching 105.26 million bags. This represents a 13.7% increase in production between 2019 and 2020.

This figure is driven by production from several countries. Brazilian naturals contributed 60.29 million bags in 2020, a significant increase of 26% from 2019-2020. Colombian milds contributed 15.6 million bags, a 0.7% increase from 2019. Other mild varieties reached 29.33 million bags, a 0.4% increase from 2019.

Robusta production, meanwhile, reached 70.08 million bags in the same year, a decrease of 3.2% from the previous year.

The ICO identified the world's largest coffee-producing countries. Brazil ranked first with 69 million bags in 2020, followed by Vietnam with 29 million bags, Colombia with 14.3 million bags, Indonesia with 12.1 million bags, and Ethiopia with 1.3 million bags.

Note: The bag size used is the standard coffee bean packaging unit of 60 kilograms.
